Check the license before anyone climbs your roof

Two-minute license checks for roofing contractors in Florida, Tennessee, Mississippi and Arkansas — where to look, what to confirm, and the red flags to walk away from.

By the Metro Builders team · Updated October 2026

A license check takes two minutes and is the single best protection you have after a storm. Here's where to look in each state Metro Builders works in.

Florida

Search the Department of Business and Professional Regulation's license lookup at myfloridalicense.com. Roofing contractors hold a CCC (certified roofing) license; building contractors hold a CBC. Florida also requires the license number on contractor advertising — if it's missing from the truck, the yard sign or the website, ask why.

Metro Builders Florida: CBC1268975 · CCC1336657.

Tennessee

Use the state's license verification search at verify.tn.gov (Board for Licensing Contractors). Note that some cities, such as Germantown and Collierville, also require local contractor registration to pull permits.

Metro Builders: TN 00044127.

Mississippi

Search the Mississippi State Board of Contractors at msboc.us for residential and commercial licenses.

Metro Builders: MS R21446.

Arkansas

Check the Arkansas Contractors Licensing Board's license search for residential and commercial contractors.

Metro Builders: AR 0447251125.

Five questions to ask any roofer

  1. What's your license number, and whose name is it in?
  2. Can I see your general liability and workers' comp certificates?
  3. Who pulls the permit? (The answer should be "we do.")
  4. What's the manufacturer warranty, and what's your workmanship warranty?
  5. Where's your local office?

Common questions

Does a business license mean they're a licensed roofer?

No. A city or county business tax receipt is not a contractor license. Check the state board.
